    The Game Developer is responsible for TVO’s interactive educational games and ensuring they run smoothly. This includes building and implementing new games; optimizing for multiple devices; integrating games with streaming video, audio, and web services or database support.


    The successful candidate will maintain and update legacy games and perform day-to-day technical support and administration of our game portfolio. You will have the opportunity to use a variety of game development languages and technologies and work on TVOKids legacy games and our new K- grade 6 math suite known as mPower.


    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Designs, programs, tests, optimizes and supports web and mobile games, in accordance with TVO’s project management and software development methodology
    • Supports Game Development by designing, programming, testing and optimizing build tools, API’s, and common libraries for game development
    • Works with Game Designers, Producers, Illustrators, and Teachers to develop functionality that delivers high quality, engaging games to customers
    • Anticipates client needs before they arise and presents solutions that encompass issues at hand
    • Participates in brainstorm and design thinking workshops to gather requirements and help formulate game design documents, storyboards, and technical documents
    • Identifies system deficiencies, de-bugs and implement solutions
    • Helps to establish and adhere to coding and development standards and practices
    • Handles Version and Release management for game properties
    • Stays abreast of trends in game development and conducts research into current and emerging technologies and issues in support of Web and Mobile development efforts


    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science, IT or equivalent
    • 3+ years of experience in game development, including designing, creating, and implementing computer games
    • Extensive knowledge and experience with the following technologies, languages, and tools:
      • PhaserJS, PixiJS, CreateJS, or other HTML5 game framework is mandatory
      • TypeScript, Javascript, and jQuery experience
      • iOS and Android native development or mobile development through Adobe Air is an asset
      • Grunt, Gulp, Yeoman, and Bower knowledge
      • GIT version control
    • Knowledge of developing games for multiple platforms and screen dimensions
    • Familiar with PHP (Yii or Symfony), MySQL, MariaDB, NodeJS, and experience with other web development frameworks and server technologies would be an asset
    • Familiarity with building Vagrant boxes and Docker containers will be an asset
    • Thorough understanding of game development lifecycle, architecture, and protocols
    • Experience working in the educational game field would be an asset
